Here's a more recent gif of the game. There isn't any ground in it, but you can see the player swapping between mouse input (which has corresponding touch input) and keyboard input (which has corresponding gamepad input).
Look. Turn-based JRPGs are almost exactly wrong for mobile because they are long and involved, and mobile games should be short and perky, but the interface is exactly right. Touch where you want to go. Touch the guy you want to talk to, or the chest you want to open. Poke the attack button in combat.
Yet always and forever I see mobile JRPGs use virtual thumbsticks and gamepad buttons. Bleck.
